Brad Watson’s journey into the Deaf community has been both eye-opening and empowering.

Brad Watson, radio presenter and NZSL Week ambassador, is a hearing parent to his Deaf son Finn and his journey into the Deaf community has been both eye-opening and empowering.

Did you know that 95% of Deaf children have hearing parents? Brad’s experience navigating this unique dynamic has been nothing short of transformative.

With Finn being just two years old, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. While hearing aids have been part of Finn’s story, they’ve also posed their own set of struggles at such a tender age. But amidst it all, Brad and his family have found invaluable support from First Signs, teaching them NZSL and empowering them to communicate with Finn in a way that truly connects.

Being part of the Deaf community in Aotearoa has opened Brad’s eyes to the richness of Deaf culture and the importance of inclusivity. Through his role as an NZSL Week ambassador, he’s not just raising awareness; he’s championing understanding and acceptance.

Brad’s journey reminds us that inclusion starts with understanding, and communication is key. Let’s join him in celebrating NZSL Week and embracing the beauty of sign language as a bridge to connection and inclusion.
